James Patterson is an award-winning American novelist.  In 1992, he wrote Along Came a Spider, his first novel featuring Alex Cross, a black forensic psychologist formerly of the D.C. Police Department and FBI, now working as a private psychologist and government consultant. 

The novel is a chilling, psychological thriller that tells a gripping tale of a serial killer whose cunning and lust for violence rival those of Hannibal the Cannibal and Dr. Cross's relentless pursuit to capture him. This bestselling novel was also made into a movie. Patterson has written fifteen novels in the Alex Cross series and his latest edition, I, Alex Cross, was published November 2009.

His bestselling Women's Murder Club novel series was made into a TV series in 2007. His eighth novel in this series, The 8th Confession, was released late April 2009.

In 2005 Patterson had five consecutive No. 1 New York Times bestsellers, a record held by no other author to date and he broke his own record in 2006.

In 2007 and 2008, he published another best selling series of books about the adventures of Maximum Ride (Max), a 14-year-old leader of a band of kids who have escaped the lab where they were bred as 98% human and 2% bird (wings being a key component) and developed a variety of other-worldly talents.
