Crime Files Series
Ann Rule is truly a true crime writing phenomenon. She has been crowned the "Queen of True Crime". She has been a full-time true crime writer since 1969 and has written twenty-nine books including thirteen volumes in her crime files series. Most of her books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List. The Stranger Beside Me, about serial killer Ted Bundy, published in 1980, was her first best seller.
In 1993, she wrote the first volume of her Crime Files Series, A Rose for Her Grave And Other True Cases. Her fourteenth volume, But I Trusted You And Other True Cases, was published in 2009. Each volume contains one long true crime case (a book in itself) and several shorter true crime cases.
Here is a list of her best selling Crime Files Series:
But I Trusted You And Other True Cases
(Crime Files
-Volume 14)
(2009) - Trust is the foundation of any enduring relationship between friends, lovers, spouses, and families. But when trust is placed in those who are not what they seem, the results can be deadly.
This is an all-new series from Ann Rule's true-crime files, with the lethally shattered bonds of trust at the core of each blood soaked account. Whether driven to extreme violence by greed or jealousy, passion or rage, these calculating sociopaths targeted those closest to them, unwitting victims whose last disbelieving words could well have been "but I trusted you...."
Mortal Danger And Other True Cases
(Crime Files
- Volume 13)
(2008) - Featured here is the case of a Southern California family man who appeared to be the picture of healthy living with his expertise
in naturopathic healing. Luring a beautiful flight attendant into a passionate affair, he swept her away to a secluded home on the Oregon
coast where his jealous rages escalated, ultimately leading to a brutal sex attack in which she believed she would die. Other cases include that of the woman who masterminded her husband's murder to gain
his inheritance...the monstrous sadist whose prison release damaged a presidential candidate's campaign and ended in a bitter double
tragedy...the shocking DNA link between a cold-blooded crime and a cold
case...and inside the horrific case of the man who crossed an ocean and several countries to stalk the Eurasian beauty who had
fled from him in desperation.
Smoke, Mirrors, and Murder And Other True Cases
(Crime Files Vol. 12)
(2007) - This volume contains stories about terrifying killers, rapists, and con men...... An ideal family is targeted for death by the least
likely enemy, who plotted their demise from behind bars.... A sexual predator hides behind multiple fake identities, eluding police for
years while his past victims live in fear that he will hunt them down.... A modest preacher's wife (Mary Winkler) confesses to shooting
her husband after an argument -- but there's more to her story than meets the eye...and
more.
No Regrets And Other True Cases
(Crime Files
-Volume 11)
(2006) - The criminal monsters featured in this volume could make Jack the Ripper shiver. This rogues' gallery
includes depraved psychopaths and sociopaths who slaughter without conscience or remorse.
Worth More Dead And Other True Cases
(Crime Files
- Volume 10)
(2005) - The book-length title case is about a man named Roland Pitre, an ex-Marine Judo instructor and the many women in his life.
Ann covered Pitre's first murder trial more than 25 years ago. How he stayed virtually free for a
quarter century, continuing to destroy lives, will probably shock you. The four bonus cases include
It's Weird to Look At My Own Grave, Old Man's Darling, All For
Nothing, and The Desperate Housewife. The cases take place in the Northwest
and in Colorado.
Kiss Me, Kill Me And Other True Cases
(Crime Files - Volume 9) (2004) - Every case in this
volume, the victim
unknowingly trusted a stranger with the sociopathic skill to hide their dark motives, until it was too late to escape
the deadly lies, fatal promises, and homicidal possession in such cases as the ex-Marine and martial arts master who seduced
vulnerable women and then destroyed their lives...the killer whose calling card was a single blood red rose...the faithless
wife who manipulated and murdered without conscience...the blind date that set the stage for a killer's brutality...and more.
Without Pity: Ann Rule's Most Dangerous Killers
(2003) - This book is taken from the Crime Files Volumes 1-8. Rule updates the most
astonishing cases from these eight volumes. They kill without conscience. They are the admired, trusted neighbor; the affable family man; the sexy, charismatic lover;
the high-achieving professional. Perhaps most frightening of all is that they are heroes in their own minds. But when someone
gets in the way of their deluded dreams, they are capable of deadly acts of violence with no remorse.
Last Dance, Last Chance And Other True Cases
(Crime Files -
Volume 8) (2003) - This volume features the case of Dr. Anthony Pignataro
who was a cosmetic surgeon and a famed medical researcher. His flashy
red Lamborghini and flamboyant lifestyle suggested a highly successful
career. But appearances can be deceiving.
No one was safe if they got in his way. With scalpel, drugs, and arsenic, he betrayed every oath a physician makes --
until his own schemes backfired. The motivations of this classic sociopath are
revealed along with other shocking true cases.
Empty Promises
(Crime Files - Volume 7) (2001) - This volume features a couple
who seemed to have it all, prosperous jobs, adorable son and a gorgeous
home but an evil infiltrated their days and nights, dragging them into a murky world of drugs,
sordid sex, and con operations. Suddenly a violent death brought their fairy-tale romance
to a tragic end with a brutal crime. Other cases recount the search for love
that brought only lies and betrayal for those who trust too much too soon.
A Rage to Kill And Other True Cases
(Crime Files - Volume 6) (1999) - This volume contains accounts of seemingly normal men and women who are compelled
by a murderous rage to suddenly lash out at innocent victims. The
featured case is the Seattle city bus ride that turned to mayhem
and murder at the hands of a gunman, the quiet, clean-cut Silas Cool
who shot
the driver, causing the bus to plunge off the Aurora Bridge into an apartment building
leaving
three dead -- including Cool -- and dozens injured. Rule finds
very real answers to the question "how could this happen?" Also, included are nine other
cases of the human psyche gone temporarily insane.
The End of the Dream: The Golden Boy Who Never Grew Up
(Crime Files - Volume 5) (1999) - The main feature in this volume is the story of four talented and charismatic young men whose
friendship was shattered when one of them was consumed by lethal greed and twisted desire.
A vigilant Seattle police detective and an FBI special agent discovered clues to disturbing secrets
of murder, suicide,
million-dollar bank robberies, drug-dealing, and heartbreaking betrayal.
Also, included are three bonus cases.
In the Name of Love And Other True Cases
(Crime Files - Volume 4) (1998) - Jerry Harris was a self-made California millionaire who, at age forty-four,
had it all. No one who knew this well-liked,
generous man could make sense of his sudden disappearance. For Jerry's wife, Susan, it was just the beginning of
an unwavering, eight-year search for the truth behind her husband's vanishing. Through exclusive access to an FBI agent
inside the investigation, Rule unmasks a man driven by malevolence and hidden jealousy to destroy Jerry Harris'
magnificent business empire. She reveals the dark underside of an all-American success story,
and a wife's ultimate triumph of justice in the name of love. Also
included are other unforgettable accounts of true crime.
A Fever in the Heart And Other True Cases
(Crime Files - Volume 3)
(1996) - The title story of this volume tells of an obsession fueled by jealousy and lust,
ultimately leading to death and the ruination of many lives. After his wife left him, beloved high school coach Gabby Moore became
obsessed with the wife of a former student and friend, Morris Blankenbaker. Morris's wife, Jerilee, began a relationship with
Gabby that deteriorated as the alcoholic Gabby's behavior became increasingly erratic. She returned to Morris, who was soon found
murdered, but Gabby, the most likely suspect, had an airtight alibi. Other stories also tell tales of obsession, lust, murder,
secret lives and false identities, and sexual depravity.
You Belong to Me And Other True Cases
(Crime Files -
Volume 2)(1994) - This volume focuses on one of Florida's most shocking criminal cases: that of the state trooper who
hid bizarre and fatal fantasies behind his badge. Highway Patrolman Tim Harris obsessively stalked his wife and then raped and
murdered a female driver near I-95. Also, included are five shorter case histories.
A Rose for Her Grave And Other True Cases
(Crime Files -
Volume 1) (1993) - This volume contains cases dealing with male killers
of women in the Northeast. The title piece focuses on a modern-day Bluebeard, Randy Roth, who murdered his second
wife for insurance, claiming that her death was a mountaineering accident; tried to murder his third wife; ditched a promising marriage
prospect when he discovered her to be uninsurable; and then murdered his fourth wife, this time explaining her death as an accidental
drowning. Although there was no hard evidence in any of the cases, the cumulative circumstantial evidence was enough to convict him.
Also included are five shorter pieces.
